The Heart of Jesus

1. The Heart of Jesus 8th October 2023
Text: Matthew 11:28-30

It’s one thing to say you follow Jesus, but why do you follow him? What is it about Jesus that would make you want to identify with him? This is the first sermon in our new series ‘The Heart of Jesus.’ This Sunday we’re going to see what Jesus says about himself, that at his very heart he is gentle and lowly. What does that mean and what difference does that make for you and me? Come and learn about Jesus’ heart.

2. Jesus’ Heart for You 15th October 2023
Text: Hebrews 4:14-5:3

How does Jesus feel about you? Is he frustrated with you? Is he angry with you? How does he feel about what you’re going through, your struggles with sin and with life in general? This Sunday we’re going to explore Jesus’ heart for you, and we’re going to see that Jesus suffers with you. We’re going to see that Jesus deals gently with those who come to him. And we’re going to explore what it means that Jesus is our friend.

3. Jesus’ Heart Right Now 22nd October 2023
Text: Romans 8:28-39

If you have placed yourself into the hands of Jesus right now Jesus is holding on to you and he will never let you go. If you belong to Jesus, then right now he is interceding for you before his heavenly Father. And if you fall into sin, while Satan and your own heart might accuse you, Jesus stands with you and advocates for you. Jesus didn’t do all his work 2000 years ago, he’s still working on your behalf right now!

4. The Father’s Heart 29th October 2023
Text: various

Many people say stuff like, ‘Jesus is loving and kind, but the God of the Old Testament is angry and cruel!’ This Sunday we’re going to see that Jesus’ heart for you reflects his Father’s heart for you. We’re going to look at four Old Testament passages that prove Jesus is a chip off the old block, that his gentleness and compassion and love and kindness are all a reflection of the Father’s gentleness and compassion and love and kindness.

5. The Spirit’s Heart 5th November 2023
Text: John 14:16-17,26; 15:26; 16:5-14

So far in this series we’ve looked at the heart of Jesus for us, how he is gentle and lowly. Last week we saw that our heavenly Father’s heart is exactly the same as the heart of Jesus. Well this Sunday we’re going to see that the Spirit’s heart is the same as both the Father’s and Jesus’ heart. The Spirit is more than the expression of God’s power, he is a person whose heart for us reflects the heart of Jesus. This Sunday we’re going to see how the Spirit came to comfort us, to renew us, and to transform us. And the person the Spirit is turning us into is the person of Jesus!

6. God’s Extravagant Heart 12th November 2023
Text: Ephesians 2:1-7

In this series we’ve been looking at the heart of Jesus, and in this final sermon I want to show you just how extravagant God’s heart is for you. God isn’t just merciful towards us he is rich in mercy, his mercy is beyond our comprehension. And God isn’t just loving towards you, his love is lavish, it is great er and deeper than we could ever imagine. In fact, Jesus’ love extends to the very end. Come along this Sunday and be amazed by God’s heart for you in Jesus Christ.
